A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until noon CST Friday. * Timing... snow is expected to develop tonight... and again Thursday night and Friday... and is expected to persist into Friday. * Snow accumulations... storm total snowfall of 5 to 12 inches likely across the area through Friday... with the heaviest accumulations over Holt and Boyd County. * Winds... north winds will increase to 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph Thursday... increasing to 25 to 35 mph... with gusts to 50 mph Thursday night and Friday. * Impacts... periods of snow combined with strong northerly winds will create dangerous travel conditions across western and north central Nebraska. The strong wind will create near blizzard conditions Thursday and Friday. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel... keep an extra flashlight... food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Strong winds are also possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
