The National Weather Service in Hastings has issued a blizzard watch... which is in effect from late Wednesday night through Friday morning. The Winter Storm Watch is now in effect from late Tuesday night through Wednesday evening.
* A winter storm will impact south central Nebraska and north central Kansas Tuesday night through Christmas day morning.
* Precipitation will begin Tuesday night as a wintry mix of freezing drizzle... sleet or snow before changing over to all snow Wednesday night. Snow... heavy at times will continue through Thursday night before ending on Friday. North winds will increase Wednesday night and remain strong through Friday with wind gusts in excess of 40 mph possible.
* Snowfall amounts may total 8 to 14 inches. Snowfall amounts will be dependent upon on when the wintry mix of precipitation changes to snow. Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate Wednesday and travel may become impossible Wednesday night through Friday due to the combination of heavy snowfall and very strong north winds. White out or blizzard conditions are possible after midnight Wednesday night into Christmas day.
