Winter Storm Warning | |

Statement as of 4:29 AM CST on December 24, 2009 ... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 am CST Saturday... A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 am CST Saturday. * Timing... although a light wintry mix of freezing drizzle... light sleet and snow will be likely this morning... any precipitation should be all snow by late morning. Snow is then expected to increase in coverage and intensity through the afternoon with moderate to heavy snow possible overnight and into Friday morning. Then light to moderate snow is expected through Friday night. * Snow accumulations... storm total snow accumulations of 8 to 12 inches of snow may occur from this storm. * Winds... northwest winds of 15 to 30 mph will develop today and increase to 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 35 mph tonight and through Friday night. * Impacts... this winter storm will have a crippling effect on travel and activities from tonight through Friday night. Along with significant snowfall... strong winds will produce blowing and drifting snow leading to reduced visibilities. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel... keep an extra flashlight... food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. |
