... Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 9 PM this evening to midnight CST Wednesday night... ... Winter Storm Watch now in effect from late Wednesday night through Friday afternoon...
The National Weather Service in Omaha/valley has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for freezing drizzle... freezing rain... and sleet and snow... which is in effect from 9 PM this evening to midnight CST Wednesday night. The Winter Storm Watch is now in effect from late Wednesday night through Friday afternoon.
* Timing... the storm system will produce several waves of precipitation. A wintry mix of freezing drizzle... sleet... snow... and rain will be possible through midnight Wednesday night. Initially the precipitation will be light tonight... with freezing drizzle... then increase in intensity with freezing rain Wednesday morning. Some areas will experience enough warming of surface temperatures... especially for areas along and south of Omaha to change over to rain. Wednesday night the wintry mix will continue changing over to all snow late Wednesday night and Thursday.
* Snow accumulations... snow accumulations of 6 inches or more are possible from this storm.
* Ice accumulations... ice accumulations are possible Wednesday morning before the freezing rain becomes all rain. The most significant ice accumulations look to be south of Seward to Tekamah to Harlan Iowa where more than a tenth to a quarter of an inch or more of ice is possible.
* Winds... the wind will be increasing Thursday into Thursday night and continuing through Friday. Some blowing and drifting snow is possible during that time.
* Impacts... significant impacts to travel are expected with this storm system. Due to the combination of the strong winds and some ice accumulations... power outages will also be possible from the storm.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
