Public Information Statement
Statement as of 5:30 am MST on November 10, 2009
... On this date in weather history... In 2000... a strong winter storm system produced a variety of severe winter weather across northwest Kansas. The storm started as a freezing rain and drizzle event on the 10th of November. This resulted in icy roads causing numerous traffic accidents across the area including semi tractor trailers jackknifing along Interstate 70. The freezing precipitation then changed over to heavy snow for portions of northwest Kansas early on the 11th. Snowfall amounts ranged from 12 inches across Decatur and Rawlins counties to 1 to 2 inches across Greeley and Wichita counties.
