Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, February 13, 2012.

The trough of low pressure that brought unsettled weather to the West on Sunday will advance into the Plains on Monday with more mixed precipitation. The trough will support a low and associated warm front moving eastward into the Southern Plains. As the system progresses, rain showers with periods of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms will spread from parts of central/eastern Texas into western Louisiana, mixed precipitation will develop in parts of Oklahoma and Arkansas, and snow will blanket parts of the Central Plains, Mid-Mississippi Valley, and parts of the western Ohio Valley. Areas from eastern Texas through Arkansas should expect the heaviest precipitation totals. Heightened winter weather conditions will allow Winter Weather Advisories and a few Winter Storm Warnings to remain in effect through the day. Elsewhere east of the Continental Divide, lake-effect snow showers will continue along parts of the Lower Great Lakes Snowbelt.

In the West, a Pacific cold front pushing across the Pacific Northwest will drop southward across northern California, bringing coastal and valley rain and significant snowfall to the Sierra Nevadas.

Winter Weather Advisory
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 8:36 PM CST on February 12, 2012

... Winter Weather Advisory now in effect until 6 PM CST Monday...

* timing... light freezing drizzle and areas of sleet have begun to
form across portions of north central Kansas this evening... and
are expected to continue at times through the daytime hours
Monday... occasionally mixing with snow.

* Snow and ice accumulation... total snowfall accumulations will
range from less than one inch to up to two inches... with the
highest totals expected near or north of the Nebraska state
line. Freezing drizzle is also expected to create a thin glaze
of ice at times in spots.

* Impact... the combination of snow and freezing drizzle will result
in slick roadways... especially during the overnight hours and
for Monday morning commuters.

* Uncertainty... although the advisory is in effect for the next 21
hours... not all areas will experience snow or freezing drizzle
the entire time... as precipitation will be off and on in
nature. In addition... temperatures may warm above freezing by
late Monday morning... ending the freezing drizzle threat.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow... sleet... or
freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for
slippery roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while
driving.
