... Winter storm conditions possible Saturday night and Sunday...

There is greater confidence in the return of winter weather to
much of southeast Wyoming and the western Nebraska Panhandle
Saturday night and Sunday. The forecast models are in good
agreement tracking a strong surface low pressure system from
eastern Colorado Saturday afternoon into central Nebraska Sunday.
This low pressure system may interact with abundant moisture to
produce widespread heavy snowfall.

Widespread rain is likely Saturday afternoon for areas along and
east of the Laramie range. As the upper level low moves into
northeast Colorado Saturday night and Sunday... it will draw much
colder air south across southeast Wyoming and the western
Nebraska Panhandle. Snow levels will start around 7500 to 8000
feet... then drop to 5500 feet early Sunday morning. Winds behind
the associated cold front may be quite strong... with sustained
north to northeast winds of 25 to 35 mph gusting to around 40 mph
late Saturday afternoon through Sunday. This is a favorable
pattern for widespread heavy snow and blowing snow for much of
southeast Wyoming and the western Nebraska Panhandle. Travel
across interstates 25 and 80 could be significantly impacted
Saturday night and Sunday.

There is the possibility that the low pressure system could track
further north... which would mean the heaviest snow would be
further north and much of southeast Wyoming and the western
Nebraska Panhandle would most likely experience light rain and
snow. If planning travel for the mothers day weekend across
southeast Wyoming and the western Nebraska Panhandle... stay tuned
for later updates and statements from the National Weather Service
in Cheyenne on this potential winter storm.
