Public Information Statement

... A tornado occurred in south Dickinson Wednesday evening...
The following is a preliminary storm damage report.
Severe thunderstorms and tornadoes moved through much of southwestern North Dakota Wednesday evening. The Bismarck office of the National Weather Service conducted a storm damage survey of the event and spoke to numerous people.
The conclusion is that a tornado occurred in south Dickinson at approximately 815 PM MDT (915 PM cdt). The tornado damage corresponded to EF3 on the Enhanced Fujita scale. From that it was determined that wind speeds in the tornado were on the order of 150 mph.
Significant damage occurred in the southern portion of Dickinson. The worst damage was along and south of The Heart river... on either side of Highway 22. This is south of Villard street (the Interstate 94 business loop).
At the time of this report there were no fatalities reported to the National Weather Service... and a few minor injuries were reported.
Some homes were almost completely destroyed. Many roofs on houses and businesses were missing or severely damaged. There was extensive tree damage... many trees blown down and many trees stripped of their branches.
Another storm damage report will be sent on Friday morning with any additional details or corrections.
