Statement as of 7:00 am CST on December 15, 2009 ... Record low temperature tied at Dickinson ND this morning... As of 7 am CST... the morning low temperature at Dickinson is 26 degrees below zero. This ties the record low for this date originally set in 1989. It is possible that the temperature could fall a few more degrees prior to sunrise. If this happens a followup report will be sent.

Statement as of 1:45 PM CST on December 15, 2009 ... National Weather Service Bismarck, ND commissions the radiosonde replacement system... After extensive testing, on September 30, 2009, noaa's National Weather Service office in Bismarck, ND officially commissioned the radiosonde replacement system (rrs) which is an integral component of the upper air observation program. This system commissioning includes advanced technologies such as tracking utilizing the global positioning system. The radiosonde replacement system (rrs) network serves as an integral component in gathering weather data from the atmosphere. The data format of the upper air observation will remain the same although the length of the coded messages will increase due to higher resolution of data. The changes are reflected in modeling and forecasts issued by the National Weather Service. The rrs supports noaa's cross-cutting priority to integrate global environmental observation and data management and provides critical support for noaa's mission.
