... Multiple tornadoes confirmed in Rolette County North Dakota...
The National Weather Service in Bismarck conducted a storm survey Tuesday afternoon over northern Rolette County. Storm survey observations and interviews with local officials and the public... indicate that a storm system spawned multiple tornadoes Monday afternoon... extending from 7 miles north of Dunseith to the Rolette/Towner County line 4 miles east of Rolla. Storm survey crews from the National Weather Service office in Grand Forks conducted additional storm surveys over Towner County.
In the town of Rolla... several homes indicated significant structural damage... corresponding to EF3 on the Enhanced Fujita scale. From this it was determined that the maximum wind speeds were on the order of 140 mph.
Elsewhere in Rolette County... tornado damage corresponded to a range of EF0 to EF2... which is consistent with wind speeds ranging from 80 to 115 mph.
