Warnings and Notices
Coastal Flood Advisory
Statement as of 12:00 PM EST on November 16, 2009
... Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect from 5 am to 10 am
EST...
A coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect from 5 am to 10 am EST.
The combination of high astronomical tides and lingering easterly
swell will produce minor coastal flooding across portions of
Onslow and Carteret counties during the morning high tide. High
tide in the ocean will occur around 6 am and in the back bays and
tidal creeks around 9 am. Areas to be affected include affecting
low- lying areas at the beaches... near marshes and tidal
creeks... and also along tidal portions of rivers.
Water will rise into areas that only rarely experience flooding
without a storm. Vehicles parked in these flood-prone areas
should be moved to higher ground. If traveling Monday morning...
pay close attention for water covering the Road. Never drive
through water of uncertain depth.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate minor flooding of low areas along the
shore.
Dense Fog Advisory
Statement as of 10:25 PM EST on November 15, 2009
... Dense fog advisory in effect until 8 am EST Monday...
The National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City has issued
a dense fog advisory... which is in effect until 8 am EST Monday.
Areas of fog have started to develop over eastern North Carolina
this evening. The fog will become more widespread and dense later
tonight with visibilities dropping to 1/4 mile or less at times.
The fog will begin to lift after sunrise Monday morning.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A dense fog advisory means visibilities will frequently be
reduced to less than one quarter mile. If driving... reduce your
speed... use your low beam headlights... and leave plenty of
distance between your vehicle and those around you.
