... Coastal Flood Advisory in effect from 5 am to noon EST
Sunday...
The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a coastal
Flood Advisory... which is in effect from 5 am to noon EST Sunday.
Tide levels are expected to remain one half to 1 foot above
normal as a result of an expansive but departing strong coastal
storm far off the Carolina coast. In addition... tides will be
affected by a new moon... with the highest tide occurring around
600 am Sunday. Minor coastal flooding will develop across low-
lying beaches initially and prone locations along tidal creeks and
marshes. In addition... minor coastal flooding is possible along
the prone locations along the Intracoastal Waterway... and tidal
portions of rivers located along downtown Georgetown and
Wilmington.
Vehicles parked in flood prone locations should be moved to
higher ground. Low elevation streets near beaches... marshes and
rivers may become impassible due to high water. Be especially
careful at night when it is more difficult to judge the depth of
the water.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A coastal Flood Advisory indicates that high astronomical tides
from this new moon and residual surge from the departing coastal
low will combine to generate some flooding of low areas along
coastal locations.
