The Flood Watch is now in effect for

* portions of north central North Carolina and southwest
Virginia... including the following areas... in north central
North Carolina... Surry. In southwest Virginia... Carroll and
Floyd.

* Through this afternoon

* periods of moderate rain are expected through this afternoon.
Additional rainfall amounts today of 1.0 to 2.0 inches are
expected.

* The prolonged moderate to heavy rainfall over the last couple of
days has and will cause flooding of creeks and small streams.
Flooding of main Stem rivers is also expected to begin this
morning.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be
alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to
flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding
develop.

... Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 am EST Friday...

A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 am EST Friday.

Expect north to northeast wind at 15 to 30 mph... with gusts up to
45 mph possible. Because of the wet soil conditions... these winds
will likely be strong enough to down some trees... and cause power
outages.

This Wind Advisory means that winds will be high enough combined
with wet soils to down some trees. Use caution if traveling as
these gusts could down limbs and trees along highways.
