The National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City has issued a coastal Flood Warning... which is in effect from 8 PM this evening to 7 PM EST Friday. The coastal Flood Watch is no longer in effect.
Low pressure will move off the southeast U.S. Coast today as strong high pressure builds to the north. These systems will produce strong northeast winds of 25 to 40 mph later today through Friday along the coast. The strong winds will increase water levels over the southern Pamlico Sound and produce the threat of moderate flooding. Areas from Merrimon to Cedar Island are expected to see water levels rise 3 to 5 feet above normal.
The onshore winds and building surf will create a high threat of rip currents along the beaches today.

* a portion of eastern North Carolina... including the following areas... Beaufort... Carteret... Craven... Duplin... Greene... Jones... Lenoir... Martin... Mainland Dare... Mainland Hyde... Onslow... Pamlico... Pitt... Tyrrell and Washington.
* From 7 am EST this morning through late Thursday night
* widespread rain will continue into Thursday night as low pressure moves slowly northeast off the southeast coast. Total rainfall amounts are expected to range from 5 to 8 inches... and this will likely lead to significant runoff... with flooding of low lying and poor drainage areas possible.

The National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City has issued a Wind Advisory... which is in effect from 7 PM this evening to 7 PM EST Thursday.
An area of low pressure will move off the southeast coast today and pass just off the North Carolina coast tonight through Friday as high pressure builds to the north. These systems will combine to produce strong northeast winds of 25 to 35 mph with higher gusts beginning this evening and continuing through Thursday. The winds will slowly subside Thursday night through Saturday as the area of low pressure pushes east of the area.

A Wind Advisory means that winds of 31 to 39 mph with higher gusts are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult... especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
