Yadkin County in northwest North Carolina
Wilkes County in northwest North Carolina
Surry County in north central North Carolina

* until 815 PM EST.

* At 215 PM EST radar continued to detect light to moderate rain
falling over the advisory area. Rain late last night into early this
morning brought heavy rain. Additional rain this afternoon and early
evening may prompt streams to reach bank level... or for there to be
ponding of water in urban areas.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause elevated levels on
small creeks and streams... and ponding of water on country roads and
farmland along the banks of creeks and streams.

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of North Carolina and Virginia... including the
following areas... in North Carolina... Alleghany NC... Ashe...
Caswell... Rockingham... Stokes... Surry... Watauga... Wilkes and
Yadkin. In Virginia... Amherst... Appomattox... Bedford... Bland...
Buckingham... Campbell... Carroll... Charlotte... Floyd...
Franklin... Grayson... Halifax... Henry... Patrick...
Pittsylvania... Smyth... Tazewell and Wythe.

* Through late tonight

* periods of moderate to heavy rain are expected this afternoon
and tonight. Total rainfall amounts of 3.0 to 4.0 inches by 600
am Thursday morning are forecast... with additional heavy rain
possible during the day Thursday in the piedmonts of southwest
Virginia and northwest North Carolina.

* Heavy rainfall will cause flooding of creeks and small
streams... possibly beginning this afternoon. Flooding of main
Stem rivers is also expected later tonight through Thursday. See
the latest river Flood Warning for flooding expected on the Dan
and lower Roanoke rivers.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be
alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to
flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding
develop.

A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 am EST Thursday.

Expect north to northeast wind at 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to
45 mph possible. The wet soil conditions will make trees more
prone to being blown down. Trees have already been reported downed
in most of the northwest North Carolina counties east of the Blue
Ridge... also across Southside Virginia... and along the Blue Ridge
from Bedford... southwest to Patrick County. Winds are expected to
be stronger later this afternoon and evening... so more downed
trees are likely in the advisory area.

A Wind Advisory means that winds of 35 mph are expected. Winds
this strong can make driving difficult... especially for high
profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
