Statement as of 4:01 PM EST on March 05, 2015

... Winter Weather Advisory now in effect until noon EST Friday...

* locations... along and north of Highway 64... including all of The
Triad and Triangle... Roxboro... Rocky Mount... and Roanoke
Rapids... as well as Wayne and Johnston counties.

* Hazard types... a light wintry mixture of mainly sleet... with a
little freezing rain and wet snow this evening... and black ice
on sidewalks and roads overnight through Friday morning.

* Accumulations... ice accumulations may reach a trace to a few
hundredths of an inch... while accumulations of sleet and wet
snow may approach a half inch.

* Timing... rain will transition to a wintry mix from north to
south between 4 PM and 7 PM... and continue through the evening
before precipitation ends from west to east toward midnight.
Then... after midnight... temperatures will drop below
freezing... causing any wetness on roads and sidewalks to freeze
into black ice. Readings are likely to stay below freezing until
late morning Friday.

* Impacts... hazardous travel conditions.

* Winds... north 5 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

* Temperatures... lows tonight will be in the upper teens to mid
20s.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued because periods of
wintry precipitation will result in hazardous travel conditions
this evening. After midnight... wet roads and cold temperatures
will result in areas of black ice on roads and sidewalks.
Motorists should exercise extreme caution tonight into Friday
morning... especially at intersections... onramps and
offramps... bridges... and overpasses... where accidents are most
likely.
