Widespread rain with isolated thunderstorms this morning...then widespread rain this afternoon. Rain may be heavy at times this morning. Near steady temperature in the lower 60s. Northeast winds 15 to 20 mph. Chance of rain near 100 percent.
The National Weather Service in Wilmington NC has issued a
* Flood Warning for... Horry County in northeast South Carolina southwestern Brunswick County in southeast North Carolina central Marion County in northeast South Carolina Columbus County in southeast North Carolina
* until 1215 PM EST
* at 909 am EST National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated an area of enhanced heavy rainfall moving across most of central Horry County. The heaviest rain is currently falling across routes 501 and 701 from Galivants Ferry to Conway. A trailing area of heavy rain near the coast is affecting a large stretch of Highway 17 from Myrtle Beach on south. This rainfall will slowly move to the northeast over the next two to three hours.
Additional rainfall amounts of two inches are possible in the warned area.
This heavy rainfall has already caused parts of Highway 17 to be closed in Georgetown County due to flooding.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause elevated levels on small creeks and streams... and ponding of water in urban areas... highways... streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage areas and low lying spots.

* the remnants of Hurricane Ida will bring heavy rainfall to the area today and Thursday. The heaviest rain is expected to occur this afternoon tonight. 4 to 6 inches of rain is expected through Thursday... with locally higher amounts possible.
Rainfall rates will generally be moderate to occasionally heavy... but the prolonged nature of the rain will lead to potential flooding problems. The widespread nature of the rain may lead to river flooding later in the week. Some major rivers may experience minor flooding by Friday into the weekend.
