Statement as of 5:26 AM EST on November 11, 2009 ... Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect from 8 PM this evening to 7 PM EST Friday... A coastal Flood Warning remains in effect from 8 PM this evening to 7 PM EST Friday. Low pressure will move off the southeast U.S. Coast today as strong high pressure builds to the north. These systems will produce strong northeast winds of 30 to 40 mph later today through Friday along the coast. The strong winds will increase water levels over the southern Pamlico Sound and produce the threat of moderate flooding. Areas from Oriental to New Bern and North Harlowe are expected to see water levels rise 3 to 4 feet above normal. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A coastal Flood Warning means that flooding is occurring or imminent. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert for rising water... and take appropriate action to protect life and property. |

The Flood Watch continues for * a portion of eastern North Carolina... including the following areas... Beaufort... Carteret... Craven... Duplin... Greene... Jones... Lenoir... Martin... Mainland Dare... Mainland Hyde... Onslow... Pamlico... Pitt... Tyrrell and Washington. * Through late Thursday night * widespread rain will continue into Thursday night as low pressure moves slowly northeast off the southeast coast. Total rainfall amounts are expected to range from 5 to 8 inches... and this will likely lead to significant runoff... with flooding of low lying and poor drainage areas possible. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop. 1131 am EST Wed Nov 11 2009 The National Weather Service in Newport has issued an * Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for... Carteret County in eastern North Carolina... this includes the city of Newport... Craven County in eastern North Carolina... this includes the city of Havelock... Duplin County in eastern North Carolina... this includes the cities of... Warsaw... Wallace... Jones County in eastern North Carolina... Lenoir County in eastern North Carolina... this includes the city of Kinston... Onslow County in eastern North Carolina... this includes the cities of... Pumpkin Center... Piney Green... New River air station... Jacksonville... Half Moon... Camp Lejeune main gate... * until 230 PM EST * at 1128 am EST... Doppler shows widespread heavy rain lifting slowly north across the region. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches have already occurred... and additional amounts of 1 to 3 inches are expected during the next few hours. This will lead to minor flooding of low lying and poor drainage areas. Precautionary/preparedness actions... Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely. Move to higher ground.
