Areal Flood Watch
Statement as of 9:34 PM EDT on April 18, 2015

... Flood Watch remains in effect from 4 am EDT Sunday through
Sunday evening...

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of North Carolina and southwest Virginia... including
the following areas... in North Carolina... Alleghany NC...
Ashe... Surry... Watauga... Wilkes and Yadkin. In southwest
Virginia... Carroll... Floyd... Grayson and Patrick.

* From 4 am EDT Sunday through Sunday evening

* two to three inches of rain... with locally higher amounts are
expected by Sunday evening as abundant moisture moves over our
region in advance of an approaching front combined with an
upper level disturbance moving through.

* Flooding of small creeks and streams are possible where the
heaviest rain falls. Flooding of low lying areas and low water
crossings is also expected.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be
alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to
flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding
develop.
