The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued an

Union County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...
Cabarrus County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...
Mecklenburg County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...
southern Iredell County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...
Rowan County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...
* until 1130 PM EST
* at 332 PM EST... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a
band of moderate to heavy rainfall moving northward along the
Interstate 77 corridor. This band was producing rain at rates
between one quarter and one half inch per hour. Several
locations... especially east of Interstate 77... have already received
in excess of one inch of rain today.
Deep ponding of water in low lying and poor drainage areas can be
expected. This could lead to some impassable roadways during rush
hour in the normally poor drainage areas. Streams and creeks will
continue to rise steadily... and could approach bankfull later this
evening.
It is important to note that this is just the start of the event for
the Charlotte Metro area. Although this Flood Advisory runs through
the evening hours... the Charlotte area could be in for longer
duration flooding... and additional flood advisories or flash flood
warnings will likely be needed at some point.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Turn around and find another Route.
A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent. To
report high water... flooding... mudslides... landslides or other
