Statement as of 3:38 AM EST on December 03, 2009 ... Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 11 am EST this morning... ... High surf advisory remains in effect until 9 am EST this morning... A high surf advisory remains in effect until 9 am EST this morning. A coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 11 am EST this morning. Strong south winds will shift southwest to west today... then diminish into this evening as low pressure lifts well north of the region. The strong winds... high surf... and above normal astronomical tides are expected to lead to minor ocean side coastal flooding and beach erosion especially near south facing beaches through this mornings high tide which occurs around 730 am. Flooding concerns are expected to ease this afternoon and evening. The long fetch of southeast to south winds offshore is also expected to produce breakers in the surf around 8 feet... especially at the south facing beaches through this morning. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area... producing dangerous rip currents and localized beach erosion. A coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides will combine to produce flooding of low areas along the shore. |
