Through 4 PM...widespread rain will continue across eastern North Carolina. Heavy rain is expected to continue from Newport and Morehead City north to Washington. Scattered heavy downpours will also cross the Outer Banks and north coast. 1 to 2 inches of additional rainfall can be expected in the heavier activity. Motorists should be alert for significant ponding of water on roadways and localized flooding in low lying areas.

A coastal Flood Warning remains in effect from 8 PM this evening to 7 PM EST Friday.
Low pressure will move off the southeast U.S. Coast today as strong high pressure builds to the north. These systems will produce strong northeast winds of 30 to 40 mph later today through Friday along the coast. The strong winds will increase water levels over the southern Pamlico Sound and produce the threat of moderate flooding. Areas from Oriental to New Bern and North Harlowe are expected to see water levels rise 3 to 4 feet above normal.

* at 215 PM EST... Doppler radar showed a band of heavy rain extending from Emerald Isle and Beaufort... north through New Bern to Washington and Bath. Rainfall has ranged from 1 to 4 inches so far and additional amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected. This will lead to minor flooding of low lying and poor drainage areas.

A Wind Advisory remains in effect from 7 PM this evening to 7 PM EST Thursday.
An area of low pressure will move off the southeast coast today and pass just off the North Carolina coast tonight through Friday as high pressure builds to the north. These systems will combine to produce strong northeast winds of 25 to 35 mph with higher gusts beginning this evening and continuing through Thursday. The winds will slowly subside Thursday night through Saturday as the area of low pressure pushes east of the area.
