Statement as of 2:50 PM EST on December 24, 2009 ... Freezing Rain Advisory remains in effect from 6 PM this evening to noon EST Friday... A Freezing Rain Advisory remains in effect from 6 PM this evening to noon EST Friday. Widespread rain will mix with and change over to freezing rain for portions of the advisory area tonight before the rain tapers off by Friday afternoon. Ice accumulations up to a tenth of an inch are expected across the advisory area. However... portions of the Blue Ridge Escarpment from Black Mountain to near Saluda may have damaging ice accumulations approaching one quarter inch. In addition to the ice... southeast winds may reach 25 to 35 mph and may gust to between 40 and 50 mph late tonight into Friday morning... mainly above 3500 feet. These winds in addition to any ice accumulations may cause hazardous Road conditions... especially on bridges and overpasses. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Freezing Rain Advisory means that periods of freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads. Slow down and use caution while driving. |
