Low pressure over the Atlantic will continue to move northeast and away from the region overnight. Northwest winds will continue to be gusty with speeds of 20 to 30 mph expected overnight. These winds will keep water levels elevated over the eastern portion of the Pamlico Sound. Minor flooding can be expected adjacent to the sounds over Hatteras and Ocracoke islands. Water levels currently are running 2 to 3 feet above normal and will very slowly subside overnight as the winds slowly diminish. Residents in areas prone to sound side flooding should take action to protect any property that may be threatened.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.
