north of Cape Fear North Carolina through the remainder of coastal
North Carolina.

At 1100 am EDT... the center of Tropical Storm Hanna was located
near latitude 36.6 north... longitude 77.4 west or near Emporia
Virginia.
Hanna is moving toward the north-northeast near 24 mph. A gradual
turn to the northeast with an increase in forward speed is
expected through tomorrow. Hanna will continue to move away from
the area through tonight.
Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 50 mph... with
higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the
day.
Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 200 miles from
the center. Wind gust to near 50 mph were reported this past hour
at Beaufort. Inland wind gusts are ranging from 35 to 50 mph.
The estimated minimum central pressure based on surface
observations is 988 mb... 29.18 inches.

Water levels 1 to 2 feet above normal south of Cape Lookout will
continue to subside during the afternoon as Hanna moves away.
North of Cape Lookout... water levels of 1 to 2 feet above normal
will subside later this afternoon. Some minor ocean overwash is
possible along portions of Highway 12 on the Outer Banks.
Storm surges of 2 to 4 feet along the banks of the Neuse and
Pamlico rivers will subside during the afternoon.
Light to moderate beach erosion will continue this afternoon.
Large surf will diminish tonight but dangerous rip currents will
continue as long period swell from Hurricane Ike will fill in and
continue through next week.
