Through 9 am...widespread moderate to heavy rain will continue across eastern North Carolina. The heaviest rainfall will occur south of Highway 70 where one to two inches of rain will be possible. North of Highway 70 rainfall amounts will generally be a quarter inch or less with localized areas up to a half inch. Motorists should be alert for significant ponding of water on roadways and localized flooding in low lying areas...especially south of Highway 70.

The Flood Watch continues for * a portion of eastern North Carolina... including the following areas... Beaufort... Carteret... Craven... Duplin... Greene... Jones... Lenoir... Martin... Mainland Dare... Mainland Hyde... Onslow... Pamlico... Pitt... Tyrrell and Washington. * From 7 am EST this morning through late Thursday night * widespread rain will continue into Thursday night as low pressure moves slowly northeast off the southeast coast. Total rainfall amounts are expected to range from 5 to 8 inches... and this will likely lead to significant runoff... with flooding of low lying and poor drainage areas possible. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
