... Coastal Flood Warning in effect from 8 PM this evening to 8 am
EST Saturday...

The National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City has issued
a coastal Flood Warning... which is in effect from 8 PM this
evening to 8 am EST Saturday. The coastal Flood Watch is no
longer in effect.

Low pressure will move off the southeast U.S. Coast today as strong
high pressure builds to the north. These systems will produce
strong northeast winds of 30 to 40 mph later today through Friday
along the coast. The strong winds and building seas will result in
overwash and coastal flooding from Cape Hatteras north. Portions
of Highway 12 may become flooded and impassable at times later
tonight into Saturday.

The onshore winds and building surf will create a high threat of
rip currents along the beaches Wednesday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal Flood Warning means that flooding is occurring or
imminent. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert
for rising water... and take appropriate action to protect life
and property.

... High Wind Warning in effect from 7 PM this evening to 7 am EST
Friday...

The National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City has issued
a High Wind Warning... which is in effect from 7 PM this evening
to 7 am EST Friday.

An area of low pressure will move off the southeast coast today
and pass just off the North Carolina coast tonight through Friday
as high pressure builds to the north. These systems will combine
to produce strong northeast winds of 30 to 40 mph with higher gusts
beginning this evening and continuing through Thursday night. The
winds will slowly subside Friday and Saturday as the area of low
pressure pushes east of the area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected
or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts
of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.
