Statement as of 9:16 AM EST on November 11, 2009 The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a * Flood Warning for the French Broad River in NC at Asheville. * From this afternoon to late Thursday night... or until the warning is cancelled. * At 9:00 am Wednesday the stage was 7.2 feet. * Flood stage is 8.0 feet. * Minor flooding is forecast. * Forecast... rise above flood stage by this afternoon and continue to rise to near 8.5 feet after midnight tonight. The river will fall below flood stage early afternoon on Thursday. * * At 8.0 feet... minor flooding of farmland and Industrial areas starts to occur downstream from the Pearson street bridge. Statement as of 2:56 PM EST on November 11, 2009 ... Lake Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM EST this evening... A lake Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 PM EST this evening. Sustained winds of 10 to 20 mph... with gusts as high as 35 mph will continue across the northern foothills of North Carolina... as well as the higher elevations of the North Carolina mountains into the early this evening. With the soil saturated due to the recent heavy rain... a few trees could uproot across this area. Isolated power outages may occur. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A lake Wind Advisory is issued when wind gusts up to 35 mph are expected. |
