... Flood Watch now in effect until 4 PM EST this afternoon...

The Flood Watch is now in effect for

* a portion of eastern North Carolina... including the following
areas... Beaufort... Martin... Pamlico and Pitt.

* Until 4 PM EST this afternoon

* widespread rain will continue this morning as low pressure moves
slowly northeast along the coast. Additional rainfall amounts 1
inch are expected into the afternoon. This additional rain on top of
the 3 to 6 inches that has already fallen will lead to
significant runoff... with flooding of low lying and poor
drainage areas continuing to be possible.


Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

... Gusty winds over the region...

Strong low pressure along the coast is producing gusty north winds
over most of the area this afternoon. Occasional wind gusts of 35
to 40 mph can be expected through the afternoon hours. These winds
may blow down some trees due to the very wet ground.

a record rainfall of 3.99 inch(es) was set at New Bern NC yesterday.
This breaks the old record of 1.05 set in 1979.
