... Patches of black ice on roadways early this morning...
Temperatures across much of central North Carolina were at or below
freezing early this morning. These freezing temperatures combined
with the recent snow melt or residual moisture from recent rainfall
on roads may lead to the development of thin slick spots known as
black ice.
The threat will be greater on bridges and overpasses... and on
rural... less traveled roads which have dried less than primary
roads. However this may make for an enhanced threat on primary
roads... as isolated icy patches rarely encountered... may make for
overconfidence in some drivers.
Motorist should consider using caution early this
morning... especially on curves... bridges... and low spots where
particularly cold temperatures may make ice more likely.
