Public Information Statement
Statement as of 6:00 PM MDT on March 18, 2010
The National Weather Service in Missoula will be changing the format of the zone forecast product (gtfzfpmso) on April 12, 2010.
The National Weather Service is changing our general forecast service emphasis from the zone forecast text product to the point and click interface... the area forecast discussion... the forecast grids... and weather story impact graphics on the front of our website. The information that has been in the zone forecast product is also available within the tabular state forecast product and point forecast table. We will continue to produce the zone forecast product... but plan to remove the spot temperatures and probability of precipitation (pop) at the end of each zone segment. The pop and temperature forecast information will be stated within each forecast period of the zone forecast. Customers accessing the NWS web site will have access to all the forecast information through the point and click map on the front of our website.
Again... we will continue with our normal forecast service emphasis. However... we want to remove some of the duplication within various products such as the zone forecast product.
The zone forecast product is a generalized area forecast using an average of the gridded forecast data for each zone. More site-specific forecasts are available from the following products: the point and click forecast product by clicking on the map at weather.Gov/Missoula
Specific temperature and pop forecast information is also available through the tabular state forecast for western Montana and north central Idaho (gtfsftmso) at: http://www.Wrh.NOAA.Gov/total_forecast/getprod.Php?Wfo=mso&pil=sft&si d=mso
As well as the point forecast matrices (gtfpfmmso) at: http://www.Wrh.NOAA.Gov/total_forecast/getprod.Php?Wfo=mso&pil=pfm&si d=mso
If you currently use the zone forecast product... and would like more information about accessing NWS forecasts through our website or if you have any other comments or suggestions about this change please contact:
