Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday, May 23, 2013. A strong, large storm will continue making its way through the eastern third of the country on Thursday, producing more, active weather east of the Mississippi Valley. While the active weather is not likely to produce the severe thunderstorms that have greeted the country over the past several days, scattered thunderstorms will be likely, especially in the Southeast. In addition, moderate to occasionally heavy rain will move through the Northeast, followed by cool showers in the Ohio Valley and Upper Midwest.

Meanwhile, some moisture pushing into the Southern Plains could possibly instigate some severe thunderstorms in northern Texas and western Oklahoma. Due to this possibility, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk of severe weather in the area for Thursday. This means residents in the area should prepare as if severe weather will develop, making any necessary preparations to protect life and property.

Also, a seasonably strong low pressure system will linger over the Pacific Northwest today, allowing wet weather to continue in the area. While rain will be the overwhelming precipitation due to this storm, a few snow showers will be possible in the higher elevations of the Cascades.

Additionally, rain will also spread as far east as central Montana.

The Northeast will rise into the 70s and 80s, while the Southeast will see temperatures in the 80s and 90s. The Southern Plains will rise into the 80s and 90s, while the Southwest will see similar temperatures.

... Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 9 PM this evening to
9 am MDT Friday...
... Winter Storm Warning is cancelled...

The National Weather Service in Missoula has issued a Winter
Weather Advisory for snow... which is in effect from 9 PM this
evening to 9 am MDT Friday. The Winter Storm Warning has been
cancelled.

* Impacts/timing: snow will taper off this afternoon, however
another round of heavy wet snow will begin late this evening and
last into Friday morning. Slushy roadways will make travel
difficult... particularly on Highway 83 between Condon and Swan
Lake as well as along Highway between Essex and Marias Pass.
Already weakened trees may see further breakage from the
additional snow that could cause additional power outages.

* Snowfall amounts: 2 to 4 inches expected through this evening
through Friday morning.

* Locations impacted include... bad Rock Canyon... Essex... Highway
83 Bigfork to Swan Lake... Marias Pass... Polebridge... Highway
200 Bonner to Greenough... Highway 83 Seeley Lake to Condon... I-
   90 East Missoula to Bearmouth.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow
will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow
covered roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while
driving.
