High Wind Watch
Statement as of 2:54 PM MDT on August 29, 2015

... High wind watch in effect from Sunday afternoon through Sunday
evening...

The National Weather Service in Great Falls has issued a high
wind watch... which is in effect from Sunday afternoon through
Sunday evening.

* Winds... southwest 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph.

* Timing... a second cold front will cross the northern Rocky
Mountains between 3pm and 9pm MDT Sunday. Winds will strengthen
first along the northern Rocky Mountain front... then spread
eastward onto the adjacent plains through Sunday evening.

* Impacts... a cold front passing Saturday evening will bring
cooler and more humid conditions to the area Sunday. Winds will
increase again as the second and potentially stronger front
moves across the mountains. Although humidity of 25 to 40
percent will remain above critical fire weather criteria...
strong winds have the potential to maintain extreme behavior on
existing fires.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous
high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph... or gusts of
58 mph or stronger may occur. Continue to monitor the latest
forecasts.
