...Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 5 PM MST this afternoon...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow remains in effect until 5 PM MST this afternoon.

* Impacts...dangerous conditions in the high country with low visibility in heavy snow and high avalanche danger.

* Timing...snow will continue today and diminish by evening.

* Total snow amounts...around a foot on north facing slopes.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Consider postponing recreation plans in the mountains.

The following message is transmitted at the request of the Gallatin National Forest avalanche center.

Issued on December 25 2014 at 05:48 am avalanche warning

We are issuing a backcountry avalanche warning for the Bridger Range, Gallatin Range, Madison Range, and the Lionhead area near West Yellowstone. Heavy snowfall and strong winds from odd directions will create widespread instability and the avalanche danger is rated high on all slopes. Very dangerous avalanche conditions exist and both natural and human triggered avalanches will be likely. Travel in avalanche terrain and avalanche runout zones should be avoided.
