Western Roosevelt Severe Watches & Warnings NOAA Weather Radio

Areal Flood Warning
Statement as of 11:29 AM MDT on August 23, 2014

The National Weather Service in Glasgow has issued a

* Flood Warning for urban areas and small streams in... Dawson County in northeast Montana... eastern Garfield County in northeast Montana... McCone County in northeast Montana... Northern Prairie County in northeast Montana... northern Wibaux County in northeast Montana... Richland County in northeast Montana... Roosevelt County in northeast Montana... southeastern Valley County in northeast Montana...

* until 1115 am MDT Tuesday.

* At 1120 am MDT some areas have received between 1.5 to 5 inches of rainfall in the past 48 hours. Periods of light to moderate rain are expected to continue through Sunday night with additional totals of 1 to 2.5 inches possible. Saturated grounds will cause the water to run off and ditches and low water crossing areas will fill up and overflow. Small streams and creeks will also fill up and rise out of their banks. It takes a few days to drain all the water out and although the rain will end Sunday night the high water will remain into early next week. Travel on gravel roads will be treacherous and should be avoided.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported. Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded roads make the smart choice...turn around...dont drown.
