...Recent Snow Cover Information...

The recent snow cover has mostly melted off at lower elevations over southwest and north central Montana. While most locations did not see any records set for the snowfall or the duration of snowpack, this was one of the more significant snow covers in several years.

At Great Falls, this was the longest period of snowcover (an inch or more on the ground) since January 2010. This year there was continuous snowcover from December 24, 2014 through January 24, 2015 (31 days). This most recent period ranks as 17th longest. In January 2010, a period of continuous snowcover extended for 36 days.

The longest period of snowcover at Great Falls was 110 days, from November 9, 1978 to March 5, 1979. At Lewistown, this period was even longer, from November 8, 1978 to April 15, 1979 (158 days).
