* rainfall amounts from 10 to 20 inches have fallen over portions of southeast Arkansas... west Mississippi and northeast Louisiana. Rivers and streams are swollen and many roads have been inundated or washed out. Although no additional rainfall is expected for the next 24 to 48 hours... small streams will continue a slow rise. In addition... the saturated ground will allow excess run-off to pond in low lying areas... so flood waters will be slow to recede over the next few days.
An areal Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported. Streams will be slow to rise and flash flooding is not expected.
Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.
