A heat advisory remains in effect until 7 am CDT Sunday.
The ridge of high pressure that has persisted over the region will result in continued hot weather this afternoon into tonight. Afternoon high temperatures have reached the upper 90s to near 100 degrees at many locations this afternoon... resulting in maximum heat index values from 104 to 107 degrees. Overnight low temperatures tonight are forecast to be in the mid 70s... providing only limited relief during the overnight period... thus contributing to the potential for heat stress.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. To lessen the effects of the heat... drink plenty of fluids... stay in an air conditioned environment as much as possible... stay out of the sun... and never leave children or pets in an unattended car.
