Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, February 13, 2012.

The trough of low pressure that brought unsettled weather to the West on Sunday will advance into the Plains on Monday with more mixed precipitation. The trough will support a low and associated warm front moving eastward into the Southern Plains. As the system progresses, rain showers with periods of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms will spread from parts of central/eastern Texas into western Louisiana, mixed precipitation will develop in parts of Oklahoma and Arkansas, and snow will blanket parts of the Central Plains, Mid-Mississippi Valley, and parts of the western Ohio Valley. Areas from eastern Texas through Arkansas should expect the heaviest precipitation totals. Heightened winter weather conditions will allow Winter Weather Advisories and a few Winter Storm Warnings to remain in effect through the day. Elsewhere east of the Continental Divide, lake-effect snow showers will continue along parts of the Lower Great Lakes Snowbelt.

In the West, a Pacific cold front pushing across the Pacific Northwest will drop southward across northern California, bringing coastal and valley rain and significant snowfall to the Sierra Nevadas.

Winter Weather Advisory
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 11:47 AM CST on February 13, 2012

... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from noon today until
6 am CST Tuesday...

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from noon today until
6 am CST Tuesday.

* An area of snow will begin to move into much of southeast
Missouri this afternoon. The snow may move east into southwest
Illinois and far western Kentucky during the mid or late
afternoon hours. There have already been reports from just west
of West Plains Missouri of 2 inches of snow on the ground.

Total snowfall for this event will likely be in the 1 to 2 inch
range. Locally up 3 inches of snow may occur north of Route 13
and along and north of the Ohio River. The snow will taper
off... and likely change over to freezing drizzle or plain drizzle
around midnight south of the western Kentucky Parkway. This
change over may take a little longer farther north. Though icing
amounts should be very light... this still could cause additional
travel issues.

* Travel conditions across the area will likely deteriorate from
west to east this evening. Those planning to travel... especially
this evening into the overnight hours... should be prepared for
slippery conditions and reduced visibility... especially on
untreated and elevated roadways. Allow extra time to reach your
destination.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow... sleet... or
freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for
slippery roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while
driving.
