Public Information Statement
Statement as of 3:05 PM CDT on March 21, 2010
... Winter storm impacts southeast Kansas and portions of the Missouri Ozarks...
A winter storm brought heavy snow... sleet and freezing rain to southeast Kansas and portions of the Missouri Ozarks Saturday and Sunday. Heavy snow fell from southeast Kansas into southwest and west central Missouri with accumulations ranging from 4 to 10 inches. These snow accumulations generally occurred west of a line from Cassville to Bolivar to Versailles... or west of Highway 65. Locally higher amounts near one foot fell in southeast Kansas and west central Missouri.
The snow was followed a by a period of freezing rain that produced ice accumulations of one tenth to locally one quarter of an inch across far southwest Missouri. This area included western Greene... Barry... Lawrence... and northern stone counties. The ice accumulations resulted in localized power outages.
Snow amounts were highly variable along the Highway 65 corridor ranging from a trace just east of Highway 65 to several inches just to the west.
The following are snow accumulations from volunteer and cooperative observers across southeast Kansas and the Missouri Ozarks.
The totals below are separated into snow... and ice and sleet categories... then by amount... and are not necessarily the final amount for each location.
