Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, February 13, 2012.

The trough of low pressure that brought unsettled weather to the West on Sunday will advance into the Plains on Monday with more mixed precipitation. The trough will support a low and associated warm front moving eastward into the Southern Plains. As the system progresses, rain showers with periods of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms will spread from parts of central/eastern Texas into western Louisiana, mixed precipitation will develop in parts of Oklahoma and Arkansas, and snow will blanket parts of the Central Plains, Mid-Mississippi Valley, and parts of the western Ohio Valley. Areas from eastern Texas through Arkansas should expect the heaviest precipitation totals. Heightened winter weather conditions will allow Winter Weather Advisories and a few Winter Storm Warnings to remain in effect through the day. Elsewhere east of the Continental Divide, lake-effect snow showers will continue along parts of the Lower Great Lakes Snowbelt.

In the West, a Pacific cold front pushing across the Pacific Northwest will drop southward across northern California, bringing coastal and valley rain and significant snowfall to the Sierra Nevadas.

Winter Weather Advisory
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 6:24 AM CST on February 13, 2012

... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CST this
evening...

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CST this
evening.

* Location... west central and northwest Missouri as well as
adjacent areas of Kansas... including the greater Kansas City
metropolitan area.

* Timing... light to briefly moderate snow will continue through the
morning commute with visibilities briefly reduced to less than one
mile. Radar trends suggest that light snow will continue through
around 8 am... then taper off with patchy light snow or freezing
drizzle possible for the remainder of the day into this evening...
with little or no additional accumulation.

* Snow amounts as of 6 am have averaged around inch from Kansas City
to St. Joseph to the Iowa border... with locally higher amounts up
to two inches from Olathe to Pleasant Hill. Additional snow
accumulations will average around a half inch or less for most of
the advisory area through 9 am... with the higher end totals from
Parkville to Liberty in the Kansas City area. Light snow or a light
glazing of ice is possible through the remainder of today and
evening... but is not expected to be significant.

* Impacts... this is the first accumulating snowfall of the winter
season for many areas. The steadiest accumulating snowfall will
continue through the morning commute... resulting in slick and
hazardous roadways. Numerous accidents... some serious... have
already been reported. Allow plenty of extra time to reach your
destination.Ensure that wiper Blades are in working order... tire
treads are sufficient for winter weather... and that you have ample
windshield fluid.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow and freezing
drizzle will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for
snow and ice covered roads and limited visibilities... and use
caution while driving.
