At 1145 PM CST... National Weather Service Doppler radar showed a
large area of rain covering the advisory area. This rain is expected
to continue overnight across a large part of the area. Another 1 to
2 inches of rain is possible by daybreak across northeast Missouri
and west central and southwest Illinois. Rainfall across the region
over the last 24 hours has averaged one and a half to three inches.
Runoff from this rainfall will result in standing water on roadways
and cause minor flooding to occur... especially along small
streams... poor drainage areas... country roads... and near low water
crossings.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flooding is observed... act quickly. Do not
enter the water. Turn around and move up to higher ground. Do not
stay in areas subject to flooding when water begins rising.
In hilly terrain... there are hundreds of low water crossings which
are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to travel
across flooded roads. Find alternate routes. It only takes a few
inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles away.
