Flash Flood Watch
Statement as of 3:50 AM CDT on May 23, 2015

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect from this evening through
Monday evening...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* a portion of southwest Missouri... including the following
areas... Barry... Christian... Greene... Jasper... Lawrence...
McDonald... Newton... stone and Taney.

* From this evening through Monday evening

* multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms will impact
southeastern Kansas and southwestern Missouri this weekend.
Moderate to occasionally heavy rain will develop tonight over
southeast Kansas and far western Missouri tonight with a slow
eastward spread toward the Highway 65 corridor on Sunday.
Heaviest rainfall will generally fall along and west of
Interstate 49 Sunday night. Most of the rain will have ended by
Monday morning to the north of Interstate 44 by Monday morning
with some lingering rain possible to the south of the Interstate
on Memorial Day. Total rainfall amounts of one and a half to
near three inches are expected by Memorial Day.

* This excessive rainfall may result in flash flooding of small
streams and low water crossings as well as significant rises
and flooding of some main Stem rivers.

River basins potentially impacted by heavy rainfall and flooding
include the Elk... Spring... and southern James River basins.

Those with outdoor recreational plans over southeast Kansas into
western Missouri this Memorial Day weekend including camping and
floating along area rivers and streams should be alert for rising
water levels.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
