... Blizzard Warning in effect from 9 PM this evening to noon CST
Wednesday...
The National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill has
issued a Blizzard Warning... which is in effect from 9 PM this
evening to noon CST Wednesday. The Blizzard Warning will replace the
Winter Storm Warning at 9 PM CST this evening.
* A Blizzard Warning is in effect from late this evening through mid
day Wednesday for areas along and north of line from St. Joseph to
Kirksville.
* Through this evening moderate to at times heavy snow is expected.
As the storm system deepens and matures very strong winds will
develop across northern Missouri. The winds will start to increase
later this evening and persist through mid day Wednesday.
* Significant to major snowfall accumulations... will create difficult
driving conditions across extreme northeast Kansas... northwestern
and northern Missouri. Storm total snow accumulations of 6 to 12
inches are expected with a few locations possibly exceeding a foot
of snow.
* In addition to heavy snow... significant blowing and drifting snow
is expected late this evening through mid day Wednesday... as strong
northerly winds of 25 to 35 mph overspread the region. Winds may
gust as high as 40 to 45 mph at times late tonight or early
Wednesday morning. The blowing snow will greatly reduce
visibilities... creating even more dangerous driving conditions.
Temperatures will fall through the teens into the single digits
Wednesday night with wind chill readings below zero. Precipitation
should largely be over with by Wednesday morning but the strong and
gusty winds will persist through the afternoon hour.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds and
poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions... making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If you
must travel... have a winter survival kit with you. If you get
stranded... stay with your vehicle.
