Weather Summary
Weather Underground midday recap for Monday, February 13, 2012. A storm raced out of the Rockies and into the Plains on Monday, producing a good shot of Winter weather in the Plains and Mississippi Valley. Winter Weather Advisories were posted from eastern Oklahoma through the western Tennessee Valley in anticipation of several inches of new snow. Snow fell as far north as Minnesota and Michigan, but lighter snow was reported the farther north you went. In the warmer air closer to the Gulf Coast, rain fell in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Wet weather also greeted the West Coast as a Pacific storm slammed into California. This storm lacked a tremendous amount of moisture, but it has been a very dry Winter for the state thus far, and any precipitation is very much welcomed. Up to a foot of new snow is possible from this storm in the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevadas when all is said and done.

The East Coast was dry as a high pressure continued to dominate, but the region experienced another chilly day. By the afternoon, temperatures were still in the 20s and 30s for many areas in New England, while temperatures in the 30s were experience as far south as Arkansas. Morning temperatures were in the 20s in northern Florida.

The Northern Plains rose into the 20s and 30s, while the Northwest saw temperatures in the 30s and 40s. The Southwest rose into the 40s, 50s, and some 60s.

Winter Weather Advisory
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 6:07 PM CST on February 13, 2012

... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until midnight CST
tonight...

A Winter Weather Advisory for freezing drizzle and snow remains in
effect until midnight CST tonight.

* Short term trends... periods of freezing drizzle will persist
through this evening. A brief period of light snow will also be
possible along and north of the Highway 60 corridor.

* Timing and areas affected... all of the Missouri Ozarks and
southeastern Kansas through midnight.

* Snow accumulation... an additional dusting of snow will be
possible this evening along and north of the Highway 60
corridor.

* Ice accumulations... a thin glaze of ice is expected this
evening... especially east of the Highway 71 corridor where
temperatures are below freezing. Areas along and west of the
Highway 71 corridor may see a thin glaze later this evening as
temperatures fall back to the freezing mark.

* Impacts... the Department of Transportation reports that
untreated roads remain slushy from extreme southeastern Kansas
towards the Highway 65 corridor. Meanwhile... many roads remain
snow covered east of Highway 65.

Due to the setting sun... ice will begin to accumulate more
efficiently on exposed surfaces. Roadways that were wet during
the afternoon hours may also experience refreezing. Motorists
are therefore urged to use extra caution this evening.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of freezing drizzle
and snow will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery
roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while driving.
