The National Weather Service in St Louis has issued a
* Flood Warning for minor flooding of poor drainage areas in... southern Callaway County in central Missouri...
* until 1130 am CST Monday
* at 530 PM CST... local law enforcement officials reported that some flooding of roads and low lying areas was still occurring across the warned area due to heavy rain earlier in the day. Highway 94 near Mokane remained closed as did several County roads. Rain will continue most of the night with another 1 to 2 inches possible... which will aggravate existing conditions.
* Some locations that will experience flooding include... Fulton... Holts Summit... lake mykee... New Bloomfield and Williamsburg.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes. It only takes a few inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles away.
... Flood Watch remains in effect through Monday morning...
The Flood Watch continues for
* portions of central Missouri... east central Missouri and northeast Missouri... including the following counties... in central Missouri... Audrain... Boone... Callaway... Cole... Moniteau and Osage. In east central Missouri... Crawford... Franklin... Gasconade... Montgomery and Warren. In northeast Missouri... Monroe.
* Through Monday morning
* periods of moderate to heavy rainfall will continue to affect the region tonight through Monday morning. The heavy rainfall threat should diminish on Monday afternoon as drier air works into the storm system which is causing the precipitation.
* Expect gradual rises up to and exceeding flood stage on area streams and rivers through the period. Localized heavy rain could cause smaller streams and creeks to respond more rapidly than larger rivers.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flood Watch means that flooding is possible but not imminent in the watch area. People in the watch area are urged to check on preparedness requirements... especially if you have interests along area rivers. Stay informed... and be ready for action if flooding is observed or if a Flood Warning is issued.
