Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, February 13, 2012.

The trough of low pressure that brought unsettled weather to the West on Sunday will advance into the Plains on Monday with more mixed precipitation. The trough will support a low and associated warm front moving eastward into the Southern Plains. As the system progresses, rain showers with periods of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms will spread from parts of central/eastern Texas into western Louisiana, mixed precipitation will develop in parts of Oklahoma and Arkansas, and snow will blanket parts of the Central Plains, Mid-Mississippi Valley, and parts of the western Ohio Valley. Areas from eastern Texas through Arkansas should expect the heaviest precipitation totals. Heightened winter weather conditions will allow Winter Weather Advisories and a few Winter Storm Warnings to remain in effect through the day. Elsewhere east of the Continental Divide, lake-effect snow showers will continue along parts of the Lower Great Lakes Snowbelt.

In the West, a Pacific cold front pushing across the Pacific Northwest will drop southward across northern California, bringing coastal and valley rain and significant snowfall to the Sierra Nevadas.

Winter Weather Advisory
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 2:57 AM CST on February 13, 2012

... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CST this
evening...

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow and freezing drizzle remains in
effect until 6 PM CST this evening.

* Location... west central and northwest Missouri as well as adjacent
areas of Kansas... including the greater Kansas City metropolitan
area.

* Timing... light snow was quickly overspreading the advisory area
early this morning... and will continue through mid morning. Snow
could briefly reach a moderate intensity... reducing visibilities to
less than a mile with gusty south winds up to 30 mph producing
areas of blowing snow. By later this morning... the steady snow will
taper off with patchy light snow or freezing drizzle possible this
afternoon and evening with little or no additional accumulation.

* Total snow accumulations... of 1 to 2 inches are expected across
the region... primarily this morning. Snow or a light glazing of ice
is possible this afternoon and evening... but is not expected to be
significant.

* Impacts... this is the first accumulating snowfall of the winter
season for many areas. The steadiest accumulating snowfall will
occur during the Monday morning commute... resulting in potentially
hazardous driving conditions. Wind gusts of 25 to 30 mph will lead
to areas of blowing snow and reduced visibilities. For the
afternoon hours... any additional snow or any freezing drizzle could
continue to make travel difficult.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow and freezing
drizzle will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for
snow and ice covered roads and limited visibilities... and use
caution while driving.
