The Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow is now in effect until noon CST today.
* Timing and areas affected... bands of moderate snow continue along the western Missouri and Oklahoma and Kansas borders. Additional moderate snow through noon is expected with the highest snow amounts along the Highway 71 corridor. Periods of light snow will be possible on Christmas day.
* Snow accumulation... a snow accumulation of 2 to 8 inches is expected mainly along and west of a line from Cassville to Hermitage to Warsaw. The heaviest amounts are expected in counties close to the Missouri... Oklahoma... and Kansas state lines.
* Winds and visibility... northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with higher gusts are expected. These strong winds will most likely produce blowing and drifting snow with visibilities reduced to near one quarter of a mile at times near the western Missouri state line.
* Impacts... travel conditions this morning will be significantly impacted... including highways 71... 13... 60 and Interstate 44. The Missouri Department of Transportation and area web cams indicate that most major state highways are either partially or completely snow and sleet covered from Highway 13 and points to the west.
