Statement as of 3:57 AM CDT on March 19, 2010 ... Winter Storm Watch in effect from Saturday morning through Sunday afternoon... The National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill has issued a Winter Storm Watch for heavy snow... which is in effect from Saturday morning through Sunday afternoon. * Location... east central Kansas... west central and central Missouri. * Timing... rain will begin changing over to snow Friday night into Saturday morning. Most locations should change over to all snow by Saturday morning. * Snow accumulations... total snow accumulations of 6 to 8 inches will be possible by the time precipitation ends Sunday afternoon. Snowfall may become heavy at times within the stronger bands to produce locally higher amounts. * Impacts... roads will likely become slick and hazardous with snow Saturday through Sunday. Motorists should exercise extreme caution when traveling. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Watch for heavy snow means there is a potential for significant snow accumulations that may impact travel. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.
