At 625 am CST the Missouri Department of Transportation was reporting that numerous state roads in the warning area were closed due to high water. Although the heavy rainfall has ended over southeast Missouri... the flood waters will Need More time to recede this morning.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.
Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely. Move to higher ground.

* A powerful storm system will lift north into Iowa today. Winds will average 15 to 30 mph today. Gusts to around 40 mph will occur at times today.
* Winds will generally be out of the southwest. Expect frequent gusts from 30 to 40 mph... with a peak gust to 45 mph possible.
* Damage to weak or rotting trees can be expected. Sporadic power outages are possible. Outdoor Christmas displays may be blown about if they are not properly secured. Difficult driving conditions are expected with winds of this magnitude... especially for higher profile vehicles.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Wet grounds due to rains may allow smaller or loosely rooted trees to uproot due to the high winds. Unsecured patio or outdoor placements may be prone to damage from tumbling. Travel will be difficult... especially for high profile vehicles. The combination of wet roads and high winds means Holiday motorists should be extra cautious and allow plenty of time to reach your destination.

Special Weather Statement
Statement as of 6:30 AM CST on December 25, 2009
... Light snow across southeast Missouri and parts of southern Illinois early this Christmas morning...
Light snow was reported across parts of southeast Missouri early this morning. At 6 am... the snow was reported from Dexter Missouri westward... including Poplar Bluff and Van Buren. The transition to light snow will progress eastward across the remainder of southeast Missouri by 8 am... and across the Mississippi River counties of southern Illinois by 9 am.
The duration of the snow will be only a few hours this Christmas morning... due to the fast movement of the system. However... the light snow may last long enough to produce minor accumulations of less than one half inch... especially on grassy and elevated surfaces. Temperatures will be above freezing when the light snow starts.
As temperatures fall into the upper 20s early this morning... some wet Road surfaces could freeze. Bridges and overpasses freeze before other Road surfaces.
A powerful storm system was moving across northern Missouri this morning. Strong southwest winds were bringing colder air into our region and changing the rain to snow.
